Access
By land .- Piura is connected with Lima and other costal cities by mean of Nor - panamerican highway. It is 1035 Km far from Lima taking approximately 16 hours this journey

Situated on the northern part of the Peru, it is bordered on the North by Tumbes and Ecuador, on the south by Lambayeque, on the east by Cajamarca and on the west by the Pacific Ocean.

BRIEF HISTORICAL REPORT
The most important culture developed in Piura zone was Vicus, which stood our for its pottery and lovely craftsmanship in precious metal.
In 1532 Francis Pizarro founded in the valley of Tangarara, on the banks of Chira river the first Spanish city was named “ San Miguel ”
Later, the city was moved to “ Montes de Los Padres “ ( Chulucanas ) which at present is the port of Paita, but because of the pirates and corsairs´ siege, Mr. Juan de Cadalzo founded definitely the present city of Paita, naming it “ San Miguel de Piura del Villar ” .
In January the 4th 1821 , Piura proclaimed its independence. The Department’s varied tourist resource offer concentrates its potentially in two zones : Coastal resources and sierra resources that are basically made up by recreative, cultural, human, technical, artistic and scientific attractions .
