BRIEF HISTORICAL DESCRIPTION

Ayabaca was settled 10,000 years ago B.C., by hunters, harvesters, then diverse amazon and highland groups invaded the zone.
In the years 400 to 200 B.C., we notice the Cupisnique, Chavín and amazon influence. From this period comes the Samanga's petroglyphs.
In the so called Regional development period they could strengthen their domains and local identity. The Wari Empire (700-1000 B.C.) was partially integrated to Ayabaca's domains.
During the Regional States and domination period the Guayacundos became consolidated with 3 important domains. Caxas, Callauas and Ayahuasca which have common origin being conquered by the Incas after a tenacious resistence.
After the territory was conquered, the population was moved to other places being installed inhabitants who were the Inca's faithful subjects in the region.
During the spanish conquest it became Trujillo's diocese's depandant.
In the independence process Piura is considered to be department Trujillo's province, and Ayabaca was considered a settlement.
In 1828 Ayabaca is raised to the category of Village of the province of Piura.
In 1857, the district of Ayabaca is created, in 1861 became a province being Huancabamba itscapital, then later by law of January, the 14th 1865, Ayabaca became broken up into provinces:Ayabaca and Huancabamba.
